DECATUR, Ga. — We were happy to see plenty of smiling faces and engaged minds as the pictures started rolling in from the Early Literacy Celebration event that preceded the annual AJC Decatur Book Festival Labor Day weekend.
Mostly Tomatos again sponsored and partnered with the United Way of Greater Atlanta in conjunction with the Early Literacy Celebration by donating 1,500 Pre-K books, which put two-three brand new books in the hands of 450 children to increase their learning at home.
Mostly Tomatos also provided 20-25 new books to the 20 Pre-K classes to help them increase enrichment in their classrooms. Each Pre-K class also uses the box of books at the event to help with the transition of literacy activities.
The Early Literacy Celebration is truly a celebration of learning of all ages. While Mostly Tomatos was happy to be a partner in this great cause by providing some of the books, there were also about 60 middle school children who arrived at the Decatur Recreation Center to help prepare the over 400 children bags and over 400 parent literacy bags for the event.
It’s also fitting that September is National Literacy Month.
